Sketchy history

Bath Volleyball Club was formed in 1986, and still has one of the original members playing (Mike Wedekind). Initially the team trained at St Marks School in Larkhall, before transferring to the main Leisure Centre in Bath.

For a number of years since it's formation, the Club played in the Avon League, before joining the South West Premier and Wiltshire Leagues. In addition to the more serious side of the league playing, the Club also send teams to various tournaments in the South-West area, as well as international tournaments, namely Scheveningen in Holland. As we are based in Bath, we also enter the Whitfield International Volleyball Tournament every year.

The last few years have seen a large expansion of the club, both in terms of it's organisation and also in terms of programmes we organise. In late September and early October, we organised a series of training sessions for young people in the area as part of our Youth Development Programme. The aim of these sessions was to make the sport, and the Club, more popular in the city. Even though the interest exceeded our expectations, we had to stop running the sessions due to the lack of money (the sessions were free since the Sports Centre kindly let us use one court, but this was only for 5 sessions), and a lack of qualified coaches. We would like to start these sessions again, so if you are a qualified volleyball coach and are prepared to spend some of your free time teaching young people how to play volleyball, please get in touch with us. If you own or work for a local company which might be prepared to sponsor the Club, youth development sessions or individual teams, then we would also like to hear from you.

At the 2002 Annual General Meeting (AGM), the members agreed to open positions of Social Secretary and Publicity Officer of the Club. The aim of these was firstly to encourage social activity between our members and also to publicise the Club, through the local media and by negotiating the use of notice-board space at the Sports Centre.
